During the pandemic I spoke to colleagues from around the world to discuss the ways that different institutions and individuals were tackling the challenges of teaching in this new environment.
English and Drama students are presented with a wide range of online examples of performance. By sharing teaching practices I hope to support new debates which may help to create an opportunities.

Dr Erin Sullivan has been responsible for the online teaching provision for the Shakespeare Institute for ten years. A concerted effort has been made over that time to try to make the online experience as engaging as the experience for students who are able to study in Stratford-upon-Avon. This has meant that when the pandemic forced all teaching online, many of the courses were already prepared for bimodal forms of learning.
Dr David Ruiter worked as the Vice Provost at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he was responsible for overseeing the shift to online teaching during the pandemic. He is currently the Faculty Director of the Teaching + Learning Commons at the University of California, San Diego, USA. In both positions he has worked very hard with his colleagues to make resources available. He has found the students very adaptable in terms of adjusting to the new learning environment.
Dr Abigail Rokison-Woodall discusses how she had to move her teaching of practical theatre at the Shakespeare Institute online during the pandemic. The courses at the Institute have for some time combined learners at a with students who attend the classes in Stratford-upon-Avon, so resources and structures were already in place to include students who were not present. Teaching practical theatre has particular challenges but Abigail points out how this environment allows for new approaches
